Broken appliances can cause many issues if left unchecked:

1. Electrical Wiring
In electric circuits, electrical currents flow continuously through the wires that make up the circuit. In general, current flows from negative terminal to positive terminal. However, if a wire burns or breaks, then the direction of the current changes. Current no longer flows through the wire. When a break occurs, the result is called the short-circuit condition. If current does not return to its original path after a short circuit, damage may occur to electrical equipment connected to the circuit.
2. Excessive Heat
The temperature inside a refrigerator increases when it runs. As temperatures rise, so do the rates at which water evaporates. Since evaporation is an endothermic (heat-absorbing) process, refrigerators generate heat as they operate. If the compressor fails, the coils begin to overheat. This causes the defrost cycle to run constantly, which results in excessive heat buildup and shortened service life.
3. Overload
An overload occurs when a consumer uses too much power. An overloaded circuit experiences increased heating throughout the load. Because the circuit components are designed to handle less than the amount of current being drawn, overload conditions cause overheating and eventual failure of the appliance. Overloading a circuit could lead to fire or serious injury.
